Dining Room Design
The dining room is one of the more challenging rooms to design because, in most cases, there are not as many elements to work with as there are in the living room. For example, the ability to use color is limited to walls, rugs and fabric on the dining chairs because, in most instances, dining room furniture is neutral – dining tables, buffets, servers, china cabinets and side boards are usually made of wood.
As in all rooms we design, we believe in mixing materials and textures. A room with nothing but wood furniture can be boring. If the table is wood and the chairs upholstered, then perhaps a glass or mirrored buffet makes a wonderful addition. The use of pieces constructed of different materials keeps a room interesting.
Upholstered Dining Room Chairs
Of the limited ways one can add color and texture to either a formal or contemporary dining room, we believe upholstered dining room chairs are one of your best options.
For one thing, they are infinitely more comfortable than wood or metal chairs. Since the dining room, after a meal shared with friends or family, should be an inviting place to hang out – a comfortable chair is imperative.
We can provide a large selection of styles, construction and finishes and, when it comes to fabrics that are easy to clean, we have beautiful micro-fiber fabrics available that are ideal for dining room chairs.
What we have done is create a chair that has microfiber velvet or linen on the seat and inside arms and back – the areas most often soiled. Then, for some added flair, we select a print for the outside back because it is the area of the chair that people see when entering or walking around the room.
The Dining Table
The shape of the dining room is important to keep in mind. When the room is square or nearly square, it lends itself to a round dining table. Round tables allow everyone to be able to have a conversation with everyone else at the table. It also allows for the addition of another chair so long as that chair is of a smaller size.
A lighting fixture can add drama and wonderful ambient lighting to a dining room. By adding a fabulous chandelier (whether modern or traditional) it is like a beautiful piece of jewelry that becomes the focus and centerpiece of the room.
