The Kitchen – The Heart Of The Home
The kitchen is often referred to as the heart of the home. In recent years, kitchen design has evolved into creating a place for more than just cooking meals. It is a place for a family to gather as well as a place to entertain guests.
It is also often created with an open plan to a dining room or family room. Of course, the person in the family who does the cooking does not want to be isolated from the rest of the family or the rest of the party when there are guests.
An island has become a ubiquitous element of any kitchen large enough to have space for it. The island usually has a breakfast bar where anyone can eat or lounge or at least communicate with the person cooking. For a kitchen that is not wide enough for an island, I would create a peninsula or at least a pass through to the room next to it, be that the dining room or family room.
Practical As Well As Beautiful
The kitchen should be practical as well as beautiful. There are many different materials that work as counter tops and that can take a lot of wear and tear. The key is to choose the material that best fits the lifestyle of the family using it
Cabinets can be either painted or stained depending on the desired look. The backslash is another decorative element that can add style to the overall design. I also like to use wallpaper to create texture or pattern in the kitchen. There is generally not a lot of bare wall space, so the wallpaper or an accent paint color does not have to overpower the space. However, it is always advisable to stay with classic elements for the hard surfaces, such as counters and backslash as these are elements that one would not want to change even when redecorating. Cabinets and walls can be easily updated with paint or wallpaper, so it is OK to be more daring if desired with these elements.
Every kitchen design is unique and specially designed for the individuals living in the home. It should always reflect their taste and lifestyle, so they are completely comfortable in it.
